Hello! Raised my head up from the cutting table and sewing machine for a minute and realised I haven't posted anything in a long while. Been making these!!! That's my reason.....mostly in white linen....christenings/baptisms are happening all over the world again! This one made a little change, in blue Oxford, not for a ceremony, though (as far as I know).....but it may be nice for a wedding, perhaps??.....those are picking up now according to my orders! Caught me unawares....

Mark 2 Sunsuit. I bought this exclusive Liberty print because a) I loved the colours and b) because it's called Tresco (a part of the Isles of Scilly, just a hop away from me!).

Yes, it's a large print for children but why not? It's bright and beachy and beautiful!

It'll be on the website tomorrow. 2-8yr sizes.

The second photo shows the suit before the overlay was added.....I think it needs the extra layer - trompe l'oeil effect and all that!

Playing around with summery sunsuit ideas on this rainy day in Cornwall!

This is the first try-out of a new pattern. A bit of a departure from dresses but I found myself missing what I used to be known for every summer.....always sunsuits, shorts, bikinis, with sunhats to protect from the sun. Nautical looks and pj's.

Over the last few years, dresses, Liberty dresses, have been what everyone wants. Is it because that is what I show mostly?!.......maybe I can understand this conundrum with some help....!

This is actually a one-piece playsuit-romper with an overlay made in Liberty Organic Betsy in case anyone wonders!

Pure nostalgia! Stuff of fairy stories....back in the 30's/40's....that's what this gorgeous Organic Liberty print conjured whilst sewing this dress! Nancy Ann, back again - the details in this revived print have to be seen and admired. This dress could have been made 80+ years ago yet still is perfect for any little girl today. Timeless!

More parcels being packed, customs forms completed and off they go! This one I remembered to take a photo of (I rarely remember until it's too late!) before sealing down the lid.
I'm so happy with how this dress has been received. A new style for this Spring. These two, for sisters, are on their way to Dubai now. I expect Liberty tana lawn is ideal for hot climates.

Want to know what sewing 'nerds' do on a Friday night? Keep scrolling away from here if you find yourself yawning! This may be a very boring post.....
I collect vintage patterns for their sheer beauty. This one is from 1930's and as you can see, has the most basic markings and instructions. I never use the patterns as they are (they only form the initial idea) but I first trace the outlines; that way I understand the designer's initial idea for the finished garment. How it should hang and fit etc..
Then measure, compare with my comprehensive size chart and make all adjustments and changes to bring it up to date......often, at this point, it barely resembles the original!
One will be cut in fabric and tested, tweaked, changes made and generally observed and questioned!
Once satisfied, all the sizes will be graded, made in the actual fabric, photographed and go on the website.
A lot of work but oh, so satisfying!! This only happens with an occasional pattern that has captured my heart! Most I make from my basic blocks and are usually variations of one another. (for those who wonder, I never use commercial patterns....I do get asked for the pattern number sometimes😏!!).
Next week (when I get time between making real orders) I will reveal the finished product! That is providing it passes!
